Humility and Greatness: An Easter Story

posted by Tony Coveny

Today, Dan Duncan, who Forbes Magazine reported to be the wealthiest Houstonian and third wealthiest Texan, died. When asked by one reporter what the key to his success was, he replied that it was humility, and especially treating all coworkers with dignity and respect. This is a powerful message from a man who wielded a great deal of earthly power—and a lesson confirmed by the Word of God. During today’s Bible Study, Shelly Sanford shared a lesson entitled How Solomon Became King!” In this story, King David pronounces Solomon his heir and King by parading him on a mule. We were reminded of the fact that another Father paraded His Son into Jerusalem on a mule on the eve of His death and resurrection. What a wonderful act of humility to see a King announced by riding a mule, one of the most hard-working, yet humble, animals. Humility is not contrary to greatness, but rather it is a sign of greatness.
